This is a guest post from Andrea Totaro who is currently doing his placement year at SAP working with the Regional COO for EMEA North. SAP are currently advertising their placement positions for 2019/20 (with 31/12/18 being the deadline for applications) and Andrea is happy to be contacted by any Royal Holloway Management student interested in applying. https://www.ratemyplacement.co.uk/company-profile/1172/sap .
SAP is a German company, leader in enterprise applications and
software. SAP is a company with almost 90,000 employees at the forefront of the
digital transformation for thousands of businesses. The most interesting thing
is that we use and consume products which have been produced and manufactured
by companies using SAP systems every day.
Fun facts: Sap customers provide 86% of the world’s athletic
footwear, 75% of chocolate worldwide and 78% of beer. I know that next time you
eat some chocolate you will think of SAP.
I started my placement year on July 2nd as
Executive Office Associate. In a nutshell, I am working closely with the
Regional COO for EMEA North (area including UK, Ireland, Benelux, France and
Scandinavian countries). The beauty of the role is being exposed every day to
the executive core of the company: leading projects, creating executive reports
and learning every day from the colleagues with years of experience in the
industry.
The level of learning that an intern can have in a
company like SAP is incredible: throughout your placement you will also be
exposed to trainings, team building exercises, volunteering activities and much
more – every day is a new learning experience.
Software, Cloud Platforms, Artificial Intelligence,
Machine Learning, Big Data and Analytics: this is just a small portion of SAP’s
portfolio. Do you need to know all of this to apply to SAP? The answer is no.
The key to secure a placement is showing the right skills and motivation of the
role, then you will have 13 months to learn every part of this fascinating company
and, maybe, continue your career in the company.
If I would have to sum up my experience so far
giving 3 pieces of advice for the future:
out from your comfort zone
(and smart) work always pays off
“can do” attitude
For next year there will be more than 80 open
positions for new interns in roles ranging from Sales to Marketing, Finance and
Executive Office. Do not hesitate to get in touch (andrea.totaro@sap.com) – happy to support. Best of luck and keep applying –
there is no rejection, just learning 😊
